Jacob Martin Jr., son of the late Jacob and Wilhelmina (Paul) Martin of Mandan, ND passed away in Great Falls, MT on July 10, 2010. He was born in Bismarck on May 11, 1941.

Jacob attended St. Joseph's elementary school and graduated from Mandan High School where he lettered in four sports with the class of 1959. He was a natural leader and was Quarterback of the Class ‘A’ football team. However, it was basketball that earned him a scholarship to Gonzaga University in Spokane. He holds a record for them: making 14 field goals without missing a shot.

Jake volunteered for the US Marine Corps in 1965 and was headed for Vietnam when he was hospitalized with pneumonia. It changed his life when he went into administrative work instead of being a rifleman. Later he was promoted to Sergeant Major of the Third Marine Air Wing before retirement in 1988. He served in South Vietnam's Northern provinces from 1966 to 1967.

Jake was in the hardware and tool business in Great Falls for many years after his military career.

Jake is survived by his son, Joshua; sisters, Pauline Orndorf and Carol Schultz; brother- in- law, Harvey Orndorf and nieces, Catherine Parisio, Monica Klein, and Cerise Estep.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents.

I remember Jack playing football and basketball against my brother Richard (Mandan vs Bismarck St. Mary's). I remember him playing at Gonzaga. He was a good person. I've thought about him and talked about him many times over the years.  God bless, Angie.

Tony Oster -

Jake was one of the nicest men I have ever known. He will be missed, but fondly remembered as one of the GOOD guys!

Advina (Knoll) Kenyon -

With all my sympathy.

Rich Fleck - Bismarck, North Dakota

I was in the Class of 58 at Mandan High but knew Jake well.    Looks like he had quite a life.    I remember him as a down to earth guy.   My sympathy to the family.
